Medicare Coverage of Oxygen for Cluster Headache
The Centers for Medicaid and Medicare has refused to cover home oxygen for cluster headache patients. They have determined that “the currently available evidence does not demonstrate that the home use of oxygen to treat CH improves health outcomes among Medicare beneficiaries.” This leaves many of our most disabled members without access to safe, effective treatment for excruciating attacks. We are collaborating with the American Headache Society, the American Migraine Foundation, the Alliance for Headache Disorders Advocacy, and other patient groups to facilitate a change in this policy. Together we will eliminate the bureaucratic “red tape” that stands between patients in pain and this safe, non-narcotic, effective relief.
